Obtaining Your Card
If you are interested in obtaining medical marijuana to treat a condition of yours, we want to help. Read through our guide to obtaining your patient card and see if medical marijuana is a solution for you.
Step 1
Make sure you qualify.
In order to receive a card for medical marijuana, you must be a Missouri resident who is over 18 years old in order to qualify.
Step 2
See if your condition qualifies.
Qualifying conditions include: cancer; epilepsy; glaucoma; intractable migraines unresponsive to other treatment; a chronic medical condition that causes severe, persistent pain or persistent muscle spasms, including but not limited to those associated with multiple sclerosis, seizures, Parkinson’s disease, and Tourette’s syndrome; debilitating psychiatric disorders, including, but not limited to, post-traumatic stress disorder, if diagnosed by a state licensed psychiatrist; human immunodeficiency virus or acquired immune deficiency syndrome; a chronic medical condition that is normally treated with a prescription medication that could lead to physical or psychological dependence, when a physician determines that medical use of marijuana could be effective in treating that condition and would serve as a safer alternative to the prescription medication; any terminal illness; or in the professional judgment of a physician, any other chronic, debilitating or other medical condition, including, but not limited to, hepatitis C, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn’s disease, Huntington’s disease, autism, neuropathies, sickle cell anemia, agitation of Alzheimer’s disease, cachexia and wasting syndrome.
Step 3
Discuss with your doctor.
Discuss your symptoms and medical history with your doctor and determine if you are eligible to use medical marijuana. If so, they will provide you with a letter certifying your diagnosis. You may also request a copy of your medical records to prove your diagnosis.
Step 4
Apply for your card.
Applications are accepted through the Department of Health and Senior Services online portal. You must provide proof of your Missouri residency, your physician certification form and a $25 payment for your application fee. If you plan to cultivate at home, there is an additional $100 charge. From there, you will have a 30 day waiting period before you will confirm the status of your application.
